Who?

Jasmina Patel

Educator

Jasmina Patel is a native of Cocoa Beach, Florida and a graduate of the University of Central Florida, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Speech Language Pathology. During her last semester, Jasmina chose to take an education course that involved working with inner city schools. From the start of that experience she fell in love with teaching, motivating, and inspiring children to develop a passion for learning.

In 2000, she moved to Atlanta to be closer to her family. Jasmina realized that working with children was the most fulfilling role in her life, so she followed her heart and joined the Georgia Teacher Alternative Program of Georgia State University. After two intense years of training to teach in urban environments, she obtained her teaching certification and a Masters in early childhood education degree from Georgia State University. During the course of 2003-2004, after teaching her first full year, she was presented with the inaugural Urban Life Toucher Award. For the past 20 years, Jasmina has been serving as an educator, reading specialist, instructional coach, and curriculum developer in both public and private school settings. She has also been a part of the Georgia State-GTAPP Mentorship Program; participating as a mentor to student teachers participating in the certification program.

Jasmina uses multi-sensory teaching, which incorporates the theories of multiple intelligences, to create varying learning experiences to promote critical thinking, inquiry, and problem solving. She respects her students’ strengths, gifts, ideas, and shortcomings. “My goal as an educator is to inspire each student to believe in himself,” she said, “to assist him to achieve self-direction, and to provide opportunities for him to embrace the skills that will empower him to reach his full potential.”

Jasmina is very excited to have the opportunity to develop and teach Spark the Tank’s Entrepreneurship curriculum. “Our camp is new to East Cobb and a great opportunity for students to learn about entrepreneurship at an early age. It's a "SHARK TANK" experience for rising 3rd- 6th graders; students are engaged in all the steps entrepreneurs take to launch a successful business. On the last day, students pitch their ideas to parents in order to sell hand-made products,” shares Jasmina. This innovative camp is an integrated academic and enrichment camp, so mini-lessons in reading, math, and writing workshop will be woven into the curriculum. “The importance of entrepreneurship and financial literacy cannot be overemphasized, as entrepreneurial ventures are the major source of new jobs in the economy,” says Jasmina.  Spark the Tank's camps promote an sense of creative confidence in the budding entrepreneur!
